BohemianRhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody…I still get chills!

On August 6th, 1980, I was 13 years old.  I don’t remember much about the day, but I remember vivid details about that evening.

For months we had held onto two tickets to something we didn’t understand: Queen.  My buddy and I were 13 years old and all we knew was that We Will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody were cool songs.  We were too young and naive to understand the impact this band was having on the music world.

Thirty-eight years later, I have a deep understanding of that impact as I watch the buzz surrounding the movie Bohemian Rhapsody.  Even with blockbuster movies this spring and summer, this movie seems to be the one that my age group is most anticipating.  And for good reason!  Queen defined a large part of my childhood through my teen years and even up until Freddie’s tragic death from AIDS in 1991.  Sadly, Freddie could have lived a productive life in this day and age but those were the times back then.

In 1992, Mike Myers paid a beautiful tribute to Freddie and Queen by including Bohemian Rhapsody in Wayne’s World.  I think we all remember that scene in the blue AMC Pacer.

The song is a classic masterpiece.  Rumor has it Freddie wrote it all on a piece of paper/napkin in a diner and walked into the studio where he showed everyone their parts and recorded the song.  I guess we’ll see when the movie comes out.

I’ll leave it there and let you make your own judgement with the trailer.  I will absolutely be there opening weekend to see this beautiful film.
