Oklahoma, oh Oklahoma. When will you grow up and play with the big boys? When will you educate yourself and learn to play with the rest of society? I doubt it will be soon.
Beginning Thursday, most of Oklahoma received a massive ice storm. I got up to go to work on Friday morning and the roads were a solid sheet of 3″ thick ice. Halfway through the morning the snow began. I didn’t watch a lot of the weather but I think we got hit with about 4-5″ of snow. I still ran errands; well, what errands I could run.
It seems that the entire city freaked the fuck out and came to a standstill. I can understand them closing on Friday. Things were getting messy. However, it is not Saturday morning and I’m sitting in a Borders Books writing this entry. If you follow my usual entries, you realize that I am a pretty die hard Barnes and Noble shopper. But I’m 10 miles down the road because Barnes and Noble is STILL CLOSED.
Why? I want to know why they are the only business in this city to close?
Look, I understand the freak out in this city when we have inclement weather like this. Oklahoma doesn’t get a lot of snow so the state and city municipalities are not going to spend tax dollars on a boatload of scrapers and salters. We get that. But the roads are clear today. All of the snow routes have been cleared overnight and the city is moving back to normal.
Hell, last night at the Thunder game 11,000 people showed up!
All I can say is that B&N is losing out on a shitload of business today. When weather like this hits and people have been stuck in their homes for a couple of days, they want to get out and go. Shop! Explore! Spend money!
Today Border’s Books is going to get my pile of spending money and I just hope B&N learned a lesson.
What lesson is that? Don’t fuck with a community experiencing cabin fever!
